Galloway woman stole $2.5 million in medical equipment, charges claim

  • Crime-Courts

A Galloway Township woman faces multiple charges after she allegedly stole more than $2.5 million in medical equipment from her job at Cooper University Health.

Marci Staub, 44, worked at the Camden hospital as a surgical technician, but presented herself as a medical supply vendor to an unnamed supplier, according to the affidavit of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.

She was paid $427,901.58 for the stolen goods, the charges claim

The hospital's video surveillance from November through December shows Staub arrive at work with her bag empty, and leaving with the bag full, the affidavit states.

She had medical supplies in that bag when she was stopped by hospital security and Camden County sheriff's officers in December, according to the affidavit.

She claimed that "she kept the same supplies on her to be prepared for future surgeries due to Cooper University Hospital being unable to keep stock of several products," Detective Kristen Blantz wrote in the report.

The medical supply company Staub allegedly dealt with provided investigators with correspondence, photographs and documentation between them and Staub, the affidavit states.

Her cell phone was seized as part of the investigation.

Staub was released from Camden County Jail on Tuesday, after the county Prosecutor's Office withdrew its motion to detain her, BreakingAC has learned.

She was released on Level 2 monitoring, meaning she has to check in with the court twice a month: once by phone and once in person.

"She denies all charges," her attorney, Dave Bahuriak, told BreakingAC.

Most of the equipment Staub alleged took was Infuse by Medtronic, described by the company as a bone graft that helps stimulate natural bone formation and remodeling and avoids the need for harvesting bone from other parts of a patient’s body.

The kits generally cost hospitals between $1,000 and $7,000 per unit.

Hospital representatives notified the Camden County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit on Oct. 2, after noticing the number of orders for Infuse had increased significantly from December 2024 through July 2025, even though usage had not, the affidavit states. They also could not account for the extra units.

The Camden County Jail does not release mugshots, BreakingAC was told.
