Clean Ocean Action will be holding Beach Sweeps across Atlantic and Cape May County shore towns 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11.
More than 176,000 volunteers have worked to clean the beach each year since 1985, removing more than 8.7 million pieces of trash from beaches. The effort protects marine life, coastal communities and stops pollution at its source.
Volunteers of all ages can participate by registering to clean one of the sites in Atlantic City, Brigantine, Ventnor, Margate and Longport.
Register and sign a waiver and photo release at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdLtJmWb1N0AsCx0cNOzbOIJ30elvlgwyMh7wc9-k6fP_i_qQ/viewform
Beach captains will lead volunteers and provide them with data cards to record what they find on the beach. Information is compiled to determine trends in marine litter, which the organization will use to strengthening policies that reduce pollution and protect wildlife at the local, state, and federal levels.
Explore the impact of past Sweeps in COA’s Annual Beach Sweeps Reports.
Volunteers who participate should wear gloves and close-toed shoes and dress for the weather. Bring a bucket if you have one. Other supplies will be provided by the beach captain.
