The Phillies still haven't won a series at Oracle Park in San Francisco since 2013.
One big swing doomed an otherwise solid outing for Aaron Nola, who allowed five hits and three runs over six innings pitched. That was particularly problematic because the Phillies were shut out by the Giants for the second time in as many games.
Nola danced around trouble for much of the afternoon, stranding runners on third base to end both the first and fourth innings.
The Giants finally got to Nola in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Rafael Devers launched a majestic three-run home run with the righty just an out away from escaping the jam:

Meanwhile, Tyler Mahle worked around four walks to pitch 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the Giants in the matinee, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters.
The Phillies threatened against Caleb Kilian in the top of the seventh inning, as Trea Turner walked to put runners on first and second base with just one out. However, Kilian then struck out Kyle Schwarber and induced a weakly-hit grounder off the bat of Bryce Harper to get out of trouble.
The Giants added on in the bottom of the eighth, with an errant José Alvarado throw ultimately leading to two additional runs for the Giants, who won by the final score of 5-0.
With the loss, the Phillies drop to 6-6. There have been some encouraging moments early this season, such as a come-from-behind 6-4 victory Monday in San Francisco. But after perhaps the best win so far this season on Monday, the Phillies didn't score a run over their final two games in a stadium that's been a house of horrors.
The Phillies are struggling to get right-handed offensive production right now, with Alec Bohm hitting .186 with a .560 OPS after an 0-for-4 performance. Trea Turner and Adolis García have delivered inconsistent offensive production, while J.T. Realmuto was out of the lineup Wednesday afternoon after departing Tuesday's game early when a ball was fouled off his right foot.
Schwarber, though, has also gotten off to a cold start in 2026. While he did homer in his first at-bat of the season and drew two walks Wednesday, he's hitting just .195. Bryson Stott has followed up a strong spring with a slow start that also sees him well under the Mendoza Line as well. There's plenty of blame to go around for what's been a disappointing offense so far.
The Phillies will be off Thursday, before returning home to Citizens Bank Park for a nine-game homestand where they'll host the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.
