MARGATE – The Planning Board Jan. 29 gave its unanimous approval for a seasonal operation that will offer hand-helA bites for hungry anglers and passers-by.
The board approved Ray Scott Bonner’s application to erect a seasonal hot dog stand on his property next to the iconic marina and bait shop at 9211 Amherst Ave., which has been a staple in the neighborhood for three generations. The board approved a minor site plan and C variance for the non-conforming accessory use of the side yard of the building.
Bonar has partnered with Hillary Bor who will manage Dock Dogs and provide several varieties of gourmet hot dogs and soft drinks in a custom 8- by 15-foot food trailer. According to the application, hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
A small storage shed will replace a larger pre-existing shed. Patrons are expected to walk up from Amherst Avenue to place their order. There will be three dock-side picnic tables where people can enjoy their dogs and ample trash and recycling containers to collect refuse. The business will also provide catering services to boaters moored at all the marinas in the Waterfront Special District.
The operation fulfills the intent of the city’s Master Plan, which encourages economic development and amenities for boaters, residents and visitors to the promenade and marina businesses.
The news of the soon-to-open operation spread quickly and all indications are that the operation has been well received by the community.
