Small business owner Jonathan Marcellus and Atlantic City Planning Board member Kyle Gornick announced their candidacies for Atlantic County Commissioner at-Large. Also, Richard Healey of Egg Harbor Township announced his candidacy for Atlantic County Commissioner District 3, which covers sections of Egg Harbor and Hamilton townships.
“When I immigrated from Haiti, I saw this country as a place where effort still mattered and opportunity was possible,” Marcellus said in a release. “I began my career on the casino floor and worked my way up into leadership and business ownership. I’m running for Atlantic County Commissioner because this community gave me a chance, and I want to return that investment by expanding opportunity for others. My goal is to help build an Atlantic County where hard work is rewarded, and every resident has a real path forward.”
“I’ve spent my career working inside of government to make sure policy is implemented the right way – ethically, effectively, and in partnership with local communities,” Gornick said. “As County Commissioner, I’ll bring that same focus to tackling housing affordability, strengthening our workforce, and making Atlantic County government work better for the people it serves.”
“My career has been about bringing people together, setting clear goals, and making sure organizations operate with integrity and accountability,” said Healey. “As County Commissioner, I will apply that same leadership approach to ensure our county government is ethical, efficient, and focused on serving the people.”
Marcellus, who immigrated from Haiti and became a U.S. citizen, began his career as a dishwasher at a hotel in North Jersey and, after moving to the Atlantic City area, worked his way up from security officer to supervisor in housekeeping and food and beverage, as well as shift manager in restaurant services. In 2014, he founded Marcellus Integrity Multi Services, a small business providing income tax preparation, accounting and consulting services to residents and local businesses.
Beyond his professional work, Marcellus is deeply involved in the community, serving as a board member at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Pleasantville, one of the area’s largest congregations. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a doctorate from Walden University.
Gornick, a Public Policy Specialist with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is running for Atlantic County Commissioner to create new opportunities for residents and revitalize the local economy. The son of a single mother, he faced early life challenges that shaped his determination to serve his community.
With a background in workforce development policy and as a current member of the Atlantic City Planning Board, Gornick brings practical experience in building job pipelines and advancing local development to a campaign focused on expanding opportunity across Atlantic County.
Healey is an experienced educator and organizational leader with a career spanning higher education and senior human resources leadership. He has held executive roles in Organizational Development and Human Resources, including Vice President of Human Resources at VerTek LLC, where he led leadership development, workforce planning, and performance management initiatives.
Marcellus, Gornick and Healey have been recommended for endorsement by the party’s Candidate Recruitment Committee, which interviews and vets prospective candidates. They are running unopposed at the 51st annual Atlantic County Democratic Convention on Sunday, March 8 at Renault Winery in Egg Harbor City.
