The Margate Business Association has announced that applications are now posted online for the annual Daniel and Maria Walters Scholarship program in existence for more than 20 years. Since its inception in 1999, the program has provided over $135,000 in scholarships to local students pursuing higher education.
Daniel and Maria Walters, longtime educators in the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District, established the program to give back to Margate’s youth. Each year, students apply by submitting an essay based on a given prompt, and the two best essays are selected anonymously, with each earning a $2,500 scholarship.
The program is funded with proceeds from MBA’s annual Wine Tasting and other fundraising events. Fundraising activities also support the Children’s Fund, which provides Margate’s children in need with essentials such as sneakers, warm clothing, eyeglasses, school supplies, holiday toys, and sports equipment. The fund has also supported summer camp experiences for latchkey kids, autism awareness initiatives, and more.
This year’s prompt is: “Artificial intelligence is rapidly shaping education, careers, and everyday life. How do you see AI impacting your future? Describe how it may influence your education, career path, or personal growth.”
Entries must be submitted through the U.S. Postal Service to MBA Scholarship, P.O. Box 3200, Margate City, NJ 08402. Deadline is April 24.
