MARGATE – Friday marked the last working day for retiring Capt. Jeff Lee of the Margate City Police Department.
“Capt. Lee’s legacy of professionalism and dedication will long be felt in Margate City,” Chief Matthew Hankinson said in a release. “The men and women of the department wish him and his family well.”
Lee started his career with Margate City in 2001. He attended the Burlington County Police Academy, graduating in June of that year. Once on the street, he made an immediate impact, serving in multiple positions, such as field training officer and member of the Atlantic County Emergency Response Team.
As a training officer and supervisor, Lee stressed the importance of keeping aware of changing laws, and ensured departmental procedures were proper and above reproach, Hankinson said.
Lee was promoted to sergeant in 2011 and served as a shift supervisor until his promotion to lieutenant in 2019. As lieutenant, he supervised two shifts ensuring professionalism and accountability across half the department.
In January 2024, he was appointed to the Administrative Division, where he oversaw daily operations of the department and guided all long-term projects and objectives.
In 2025, he was promoted to the rank of captain, reflecting the increased responsibilities of his role as a division commander.
In addition to his responsibilities to the police department, Lee has continued to serve with honor at the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard, where he currently holds the rank of command chief master sergeant. He has been deployed multiple times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The men and women of the Police Department wished him well in his next chapter of life.
