  • Community

The Board of Jewish Education is offering three informative events in February. The programs are free to the public.

TuB’Shevat Seder and Brunch, 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at Shirat Hayam, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ventnor,

Celebrate the Jewish New Year of the Trees with an interactive TuB'Shevat Seder followed by a delicious vegan brunch. Taste symbolic foods, explore the seven species of the Land of Israel, and enjoy meaningful rituals that connect Jewish tradition with the natural world and honor the Earth, strengthen Jewish roots, and cultivate a sense of kehillah (community).

BJE Book Club and Brunch with author Jean Hoffman Lewani, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the Marjorie and Lewis Katz JCC Board Room, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate.

Discussion with Jean Hoffman Lewani, author of “Shalama: My 96 Seasons in China,” the remarkable true story of a Russian Jewish girl born in 1928 in Harbin, China, whose life followed one of the great rescue journeys of the 20th century. From the thriving Jewish community of Harbin to wartime Shanghai and eventually the U.S., Shalama, later known as Shirley, rebuilt her life. Told by her daughter, this moving narrative brings to life a world in turmoil, a family’s escape, and the unexpected revelations that shaped Shirley’s final years. This is a powerful story of survival, identity, and renewal.

Stockton Speaker Series with author Matthew Goodman, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Stockton University Galloway Township Campus, Room L112

Discussion with Matthew Goodman, author of “Paris Undercover: A Wartime Story of Courage, Friendship, and Betrayal.” Two seemingly ordinary older women in Paris created a daring escape line during the German occupation that helped dozens of Allied servicemen reach safety before they were eventually arrested by the Gestapo. New York Times bestselling author Matthew Goodman spent years researching archival records and personal testimonies to write his book. More than just a story of two women’s remarkable courage, “Paris Undercover” is a vivid, gripping account of friendship, betrayal and personal redemption.

All programs are free to attend, but advance registration is required. RSVP at [email protected] or call 609-822-4404, ext. 124.
