MARGATE - The Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center, Board of Jewish Education of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, and Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, are collaborating with the Marjorie and Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center and JFS Lynn Kramer Village By the Shore to present a Holocaust awareness remembrance program, 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Katz JCC, 401 N. Jerome Ave.
View the short documentary, “Rebuilt from Broken Glass: A German Jewish Life Remade in America,” by filmmaker Larry Hanover, and participate in a Q&A with the filmmaker and Holocaust survivor Fred Behrend, who authored the book.
As a young boy growing up in Ludenscheid, Germany, Behrend saw firsthand the destruction of Jewish life during the Kristallnacht pogrom. His family’s home was invaded, his synagogue was burned, and Jewish men in the community were beaten and arrested. This night marked the moment his parents realized they had to flee Germany, setting the course for the family’s long journey to Cuba and later the United States.
A limited number of Fred Behrend’s books will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the program.
The program is free to attend, but advanced registration is required. RSVP to [email protected] or call 609-822-4404.
