Margate honors retiring Court Administrator

  • Community

MARGATE - On Thursday, Jan. 8, Margate commissioners were joined by county and state officials to thank Maureen Larkin for her many years of professional service to the city.

Assemblywoman Claire Swift and Assemblyman Don Guardian attended the meeting to present retiring Court Administrator Maureen Larkin with a resolution from Sen. Vince Polistina and the joint NJ Legislature thanking her for her many years of service to the citizens of Margate.

Larkin started working in Margate in October of 1989 as a violations clerk and within a few years advanced to the top position in the department as Court Administrator in 1993. She became a Certified Court Administrator in 1999.

Mayor Michael Collins commended Larkin in the January city newsletter for her wit and warmth.

“Even though I had only a few years to work alongside her, her impact on the city and on those of us lucky enough to know her, has been profound and lasting,” he said.

Commissioner Cathy Horn presented Larkin with a proclamation naming Feb. 8 as Maureen Larkin Day in Margate thanking her for her professionalism and leadership in the municipal court system.

Over her more than three-decade career, Larkin served as president of the Atlantic County Court Administrators Association, South Jersey Court Administrators Association and the Municipal Court Association of New Jersey.

Assemblywoman Claire Swift thanked her for making the Margate court system one of the best in the state.

“It is great because of our court clerk and staff,” Swift said, commending Larkin for her professionalism toward prosecutors and attorneys representing defendants.

Larkin said the department would continue its professional service to the city with the appointment of Deanna Krupp, who is taking her place.

“I’m looking forward to the next phase,” Larkin said.

She said she will miss “all the wonderful people here,” but she will not miss the end-of-the-workday requests from the Police Department for warrants and other legal documents, which brought chuckles from the audience.
