Atlantic City International Airport welcomed a new carrier Wednesday.
Breeze Airways will offer nonstop routes to Charleston, S.C., and Raleigh-Durham in North Carolina, along with one-stop, no-change-of-plane "BreezeThru" service to Tampa, Fla.
“Atlantic City is not only a great destination for travelers, but also a gateway to many other metro areas,” said David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, who appeared via video. “We know Atlantic City will be a welcome addition to our Guests in Charleston, Raleigh, and Tampa, and we look forward to introducing our new Guests in Atlantic City to Breeze.”
Travelers can book starting Wednesday for flights that begin in spring and summer.
Nonstop flights to Charleston will run Wednesdays and Saturdays starting May 6, with fares starting at $49 one way.
Raleigh-Durham flights begin June 11 on Thursdays and Sundays, with a one-way starting fare of $39. Those flights also will offer BreezeThru service to Tampa.
“The new routes give travelers from the southern New Jersey/Philadelphia region a more convenient access to two popular and growing destinations, whether they are flying for business, visiting family, or enjoying a weekend getaway,” South Jersey Transportation Authority Executive Director Stephen Dougherty said. “For an airport of our size, expanding service in a way that directly benefits our passengers is especially meaningful, and this announcement reflects our continued focus on delivering a simple, accessible, and customer-friendly travel experience.”
The announcement comes five months after the announcement of Allegiant coming to the airport in Egg Harbor Township.
At a small airport like ACY, "expansion must be purposeful," he said.
Atlantic City is the airlines 84th city.
"We're thrilled to see Breeze Airways expanding air service to Atlantic City, strengthening access and making it easier than ever for travelers to reach our destination," said Gary Musich, president and CEO of Visit Atlantic City. "With new nonstop routes launching just in time for summer, visitors from Charleston, Raleigh-Durham and Tampa can experience Atlantic City when our beaches, entertainment, dining and energy are at their most lively, while also opening the door to new audiences and reinforcing our position as a premier destination for meetings and events."
