JFS Village by the Shore announces March programs

MARGATE - Check your March calendar and be sure to jot down these 12 interactive, entertaining and informative programs offered through JFS’ Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore. Plan to invite friends, family, and neighbors to participate in these programs.

Musical Connections, 1 p.m. Monday, March 9

Share familiar tunes from various genres (Broadway, classical, contemporary, jazz) and instruments with friends and neighbors. Caregivers, cared for and community members are welcome. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, C Margate. RSVP by March 2.

Oneg Shabbat: Nosh, Kibbitz & Schmooze, 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13

Come for the schmear, stay for the company. Spend Friday morning enjoying delicious food and conversation with neighbors, friends, surprises. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. A $5 donation is appreciated. RSVP by March 11.

A Holocaust Remembrance: Rebuilt from Broken Glass, 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15

Join a viewing of the documentary, “Rebuilt from Broken Glass: A German Jewish Life Remade in America.” As a boy in Halberstadt, Germany, Fred Behrend saw firsthand the destruction of Jewish life during the Kristallnacht pogrom. His family’s home was invaded, the synagogue burned, and Jewish men were beaten and arrested. That marked the moment his parents realized they needed to flee Germany, setting a course for the family’s long journey through Luxembourg, Belgium, Cuba and eventually the U.S. A Q&A session with Holocaust survivor Fred Behrend and filmmaker Larry Hanover follows the screening. The program made possible through the collaboration of the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center, Stockton Holocaust Resource Center, Board of Jewish Education, JFS Lynn Kramer Village by the Shore, and Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties. Lunch Around Town, noon-1:30 p.m. Monday, March 16 

Enjoy a leisurely lunch while supporting a local restaurant. This month, dine at The Queen Bean Bistro, 4800 Boardwalk (Vassar Square), Ventnor. Come prepared for good food and conversation. Order off the menu and pay individually. RSVP required by March 12.

Brunch & Learn: Jewish History of Venezuela, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, March 18 

Trace a uniquely Venezuelan expression of Jewish identity from the colonial period to present day. Learn how Jewish communities took shape within the social, cultural and political landscape of Venezuela. The journey begins with early connections to coastal trade towns and continues with the oil-boom era and growth of Caracas as a modern urban center. Jewish immigrants built synagogues, schools, and communal institutions which became part of Venezuela’s diverse national story. Attend in-person at Shirat Hayam, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ventnor. The Girl Bandits of the Warsaw Ghetto with Author Elizabeth Hyman, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 

The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising is one of the most storied events of the Holocaust, yet previous accounts have almost entirely focused on the male participants. In “The Girl Bandits of the Warsaw Ghetto,” Holocaust historian Elizabeth Hyman introduces five young, courageous Polish Jewish women, known as “the girls” by the leadership of the resistance and “bandits” by their Nazi oppressors, who were central to the Jewish resistance as fighters, commanders, couriers and smugglers. Coffee Klatch, 10:30 to noon, Thursday, March 19

Join a fast-paced discussion on neighborhood happenings, technology, social topics, world events, the arts and more. Moderated by Village Community Specialist Tina Serota and Board of Jewish Education Executive Director Josh Cutler. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. A $5 donation is appreciated. RSVP by March 17.

Memoir Workshop, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 20 

Experience the thrill of capturing life’s adventures, history and ancestry with the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing Harriet Levin Millan. Learn about publishing your work. A laptop or pen and paper are needed for the workshop. This program is via Zoom and a link will be emailed. RSVP by March 18.

Journey Through the World of Art – Part 1, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Monday, March 23 

Journey through time and explore how the changes in art evolved in various countries and periods. See how influences from politics, religion and discoveries affected the artwork. Attend in person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. RSVP by March 18.

Brunch & Learn: Becoming Caitlin Clark with Author Howard Megdal, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, March 24 

Join author Howard Megdal for a discussion of his book, “Becoming Caitlin Clark,” which follows the rise of one of basketball’s electrifying stars. From the evolution of basketball’s early days to today's national spotlight, Megdal explores players, advocates and cultural forces who shaped the game. Discover why Caitlin Clark's impact culminates a century long journey. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. A $5 donation is appreciated. RSVP by March 20.

Brunch & Learn: Four Haggadahs That Changed the World, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, March 26

From Medieval Spain to the modern era, the Haggadah has served as both a sacred text and a powerful artistic statement. The program will explore four of the most influential Haggadahs in Jewish history, their unique artistry, historical journeys and how each reflects the time period it was created. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. A $5 donation is appreciated. RSVP by March 24.

Charosets and Chill: Cold Cooking Workshop, 10:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, March 27 

Join Tina Serota and Josh Cutler for a fun-filled pre-Passover morning making charosets to taste, take home for seder, and share with JFS’ Kosher meals recipients. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC, 501 N. Jerome Ave., Margate. RSVP by March 25.
