GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - Walead Abdrabouh on Thursday announced his candidacy for chair of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee, intending to succeed Chairman Michael Suleiman, who announced he would not seek another term after 10 years of serving in that role.
“I am deeply grateful for Mike's leadership and service over the past ten years,” Abdrabouh said. “Because of his work, and the work of so many in our county party, Atlantic County Democrats are more organized, more inclusive and better positioned to win. Building on more than a decade of steady leadership that strengthened the party’s organization, I am running to expand voter engagement, recruit a new generation of leaders, and bring our party together around a shared vision.”
Abdrabouh has been actively involved in Atlantic County politics and community service for many years, with the past several years serving as secretary of the Atlantic County Democratic Committee. He worked closely with local leaders, volunteers and candidates to strengthen party infrastructure and support Democratic victories through fundraising, canvassing and strategy.
He brings 26 years of higher education leadership in technology. He has a doctorate in Organizational Leadership, an MBA from Stockton University, and a BA in Economics from Rutgers University. He has also served as president of the Galloway Democratic Club, and as a member of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee’s AAIP/MENA Leadership Table.
Abdrabouh also announced Hollisha Bridgers of Atlantic City would seek the role of vice-chair.
“Hollisha brings a breadth of leadership experience and a dedication to families and communities,” Abdrabouh said. “Together, we are running to strengthen our party organization and to ensure every Democrat in Atlantic County has a voice at the table.”
“I am honored to stand alongside Walead in this campaign and to support his vision for a stronger, more unified Atlantic County Democratic Committee,” Bridgers said. “Our party is at its best when we lead with integrity, inclusion, and a deep commitment to the communities we serve. As vice chair, I look forward to strengthening engagement and ensuring everyone across our county is heard and valued. This is a time that calls for transparency and a renewed commitment to engaging our local communities. Together, we are prepared to build on the strong foundation that has been laid and move our party forward with purpose and unity.”
Bridgers is a school administrator whose faith and commitment to service guide both her professional and community work.
She earned a BS in Education from Norfolk State University and both a master’s and doctorate in Leadership from Stockton University. Bridgers has served as a school board member for Atlantic City Public Schools and currently serves as president of the Atlantic County Principals’ and Supervisors’ Association.
She firmly believes that creating meaningful change starts with a sincere commitment to serving others and ensuring families have a strong, respected voice in the decisions that shape their lives.
The Atlantic County Democratic Committee is expected to elect its next chairperson and vice chairperson at its reorganization meeting in June.
