The Borough of Longport will be flushing fire hydrants Monday, March 30 through Friday, April 3 to allow the Longport Volunteer Fire Department to ensure all hydrants are in good working order. The process also allows the borough’s Department of Public Works to flush the water distribution system.
Residents are advised they may notice discoloration of the tap water, which is not harmful and will dissipate in a few hours. Residents should avoid doing laundry, especially white loads, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the flushing period.
If water is discolored, run water through an outside bib hose or in the bathtub until it runs clear.
Residents may also experience a loss in water pressure while hydrants are being flushed.
