Joshua Vignona Brings a Global Perspective to Modern Technology Leadership

In many professions, travel is treated as either a perk or a burden, something to envy or something to endure. Rarely is it seen as part of someone’s education.

For Joshua Vignona, who grew up in New York City and now lives in Tampa, travel is not a side effect of his career. It is part of how he lives, something both personally and professionally beneficial. It even influences the way he teaches others to see the world for themselves.

“I’ll be traveling for work until I retire, and I love it,” he shared.

His Monday to Friday schedule often keeps him on the road. Most trips are domestic, with regular stops in Indianapolis, San Francisco, Portland and Dallas.

His role has also brought him to India, South Korea, Ireland and Switzerland. Each location requires him to integrate with different teams, adapt to different expectations, and build relationships across time zones.

About 10 years ago, he earned a certification in agile project management, training that continues to guide his leadership on large-scale technology projects today. Over time, the responsibilities connected to that work have carried deeper meaning.

Collaborating across cultures has expanded his perspective and reinforced the importance of listening, flexibility, and open-mindedness. Those lessons do not end when he boards a flight home. They carry into everyday life.

The Value of Bizleisure: Expanding More than a Resume

Of all the places Josh Vignona has traveled to, a few stand out, largely because of the people he encountered there. Among his favorites are New York City, Tampa, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Portland, Dallas, India, South Korea, Ireland and Switzerland.

“These are meaningful to me because I have gained new perspectives from colleagues and learned from the opportunities to collaborate,” he explained. “The people are what make every city special.”

Working in Indianapolis is not the same as working in San Francisco. Meetings in Dallas feel different from conversations in Ireland.

Time in India or South Korea introduces cultural expectations that differ from those in the United States. That exposure builds what he describes as global awareness.

“Global awareness allows me to learn from the experiences of teammates, collaborate with colleagues with unique perspectives, and it makes for a better, more thoughtful outcome,” he said.

During one trip to Bangalore, he visited the ISKCON Temple. The visit left a lasting impression because it offered cultural context beyond the business that had brought him there in the first place.

Experiences like that reinforced his belief that travel should involve more than completing an assignment. If he is going to spend time somewhere, he believes it is important to understand the place itself.

“Every city has its own personality, culture and traditions,” he explained. “Bizleisure means that I find pockets of personal time to explore in the cities that I travel to, for business.”

Although his employer stays up-to-date with the latest trends, Vignona also makes time to attend major industry gatherings such as the Consumer Electronics Show and Dreamforce to remain current in his field

Being physically present in those environments allows him to meet peers face to face, hear ideas directly from industry leaders, and see how new technologies are being discussed and applied in real time.

For him, business travel is not separate from life. It is integrated into it.

From Niagara Falls to Friday Night Football

For Joshua Vignona, success is measured less by professional achievement and more by his ability to make something meaningful out of each day. His life outside of work is active, intentional, and rooted in experience.

That environment is active, intentional, and rooted in shared experience. He spends time outdoors, visiting museums and landmarks and traveling whenever possible.

He has stood at Niagara Falls, explored Alaska, taken in the scale of the Grand Canyon, and visited national parks across the country. Each trip serves as a reminder of how much there is to see, learn, and value beyond his own doorstep.

Sports are another part of his routine. He attends boxing matches, baseball games, college and professional football games, basketball games at both levels, hockey games, and soccer matches.

Vignona supports local Tampa teams while still following several New York teams, staying loyal to his roots while building new traditions where he lives today.

“Exercise and sports are a way to stay healthy and disconnect from work,” Vignona shared.

Personally, he enjoys boxing to stay fit, while scuba diving gives him an outlet where he can relax and focus entirely on the experience. At home, charcoal grilling slows down the pace of everyday life.

Beyond recreation, he considers himself a strong advocate for autism awareness.

Carrying Values Across Every City

Before Tampa and long before frequent flights became routine, there was New York City. Growing up there shaped Vignona’s perspective, work ethic, and relentless pace.

When he attended SUNY Albany for his undergraduate education, the experience deepened what New York had already instilled. He came to understand that learning was not a stage of life to complete, but a discipline to maintain.

Education was never confined to a campus or degree. It carried into offices, airports, convention halls, and conversations along the way.

He considers his mother, a semi-retired professor, the closest thing he has ever had to a mentor or role model.

Today, Josh Vignona is intentional about minimizing distractions so that he can focus on anything that truly moves the needle. In his professional life, that means strengthening relationships, networking with purpose, and showing up in person whenever possible.

Looking ahead, Hawaii is next on his list. But the future is less about the destination and more about the mindset he brings into each new place. The cities may change, but the values he carries into them do not.

Vignona sees life as a series of setbacks and challenges and believes that moving forward is more important than trying to be perfect. In his view, everyone is human, and progress comes from continuing on even after mistakes are made.

To him, achievements and failures are equal teachers, but neither should define a person.

“Be kind to yourself and be a kind leader,” he said.

In the end, the flights, the meetings, and the miles traveled are not the measure of his life. The measure is whether he returns home each time with memories and stories worth learning from and sharing.
