The head of the Camden Diocese will be in Galloway Township to celebrate Good Friday.
The Most Rev. Joseph Williams will visit various church's during Holy Week, including at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish at Assumption Church in Galloway.
The church at 146 S. Pitney Road is the bishop's one visit to an Atlantic County church for the week.
He will be there Good Friday, April 4.
The Good Friday Way of the Cross is at 2 p.m. with a reading of the Passion at 3 p.m., commemorating the Passion and death of Jesus with.
There will bespecial intercessions, a form of veneration of the Cross, and a Communion service.
In accord with the ancient tradition of the Church, Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday.
The bishop's other visits throughout the diocese begin this Sunday at 11 a.m. for Palm Sunday at Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Joseph Church at 140 Broad St. in Swedesboro, Gloucester County.
Palm Sunday opens Holy Week, the most solemn week in the church’s liturgical year.
It is when the church celebrates Jesus’ entrance into the city of Jerusalem.
The Chrism Mass is 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Hope Parish, Saint Agnes Church at 701 Little Gloucester Road in Blackwood, Camden County.
At the Chrism Mass, the bishop concelebrates with the priests of the diocese, consecrates the Holy Chrism, and blesses the Oil of the Sick and Oil of Catechumens for use in parishes throughout the year.
The Chrism Mass also manifests the communion of the priests with the bishop in the same priesthood and ministry of Jesus.
This Mass will also be livestreamed on Facebook, YouTube and on the Catholic Star Herald's website.
The bishop will celebrate the Easter Vigil at the 7 p.m. Saturday Mass at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 642 Market St. in Camden.
It will in both English and Spanish.
At this Mass, adult catechumens (those preparing for Baptism) receive the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist) during the liturgy.
The week culminates in the Easter Sunday Mass celebrating the resurrection.
The bishop will be at Our Lady of Peace Parish at 32 Carroll Ave. in Williamstown, Gloucester County at noon Sunday, April 5.
