  • Ventnor

VENTNOR - The Red Room on Dorset Avenue held its first-ever Holiday Market Sunday, Dec. 16. Restaurant owner Maria Gatta said she organized the market as a way to get people together before the Christmas holiday, and hopefully, start a new tradition.

"It's the first time we're holding an indoor market," said Gatta, a founding member of the Ventnor Farmers Market.

"The crowd's been consistent, despite the rain," she said.

In all nine vendors, several of whom vend at Ventnor's summertime market, participated in the inaugural event, which was open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendors included baked goods from No. 7311, handmade pastas from The Red Room, herbs and lettuce from The Potato Homestead organic farm, sea salt products from Cape May Sea Salt Co. and homemade soups from Ladle of Luv, among others. The Red Room served up some free slices of pizza.

"People love to shop local, and we just wanted to get everyone together for the holiday," Gatta said.

The restaurant was closed for the day, so Gatta could also participate in the Linwood Holiday Farmers Market starting at 5 p.m., where she would sell the restaurant's hand rolled fettuccine, ravioli and spaghetti, affectionately known to Italians as "home-mades."
