Margate Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that injured two pedestrians Monday evening, Sept. 3 as they were leaving the Margate Dairy Bar and Burger.

Police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian accident at the intersection of Madison and Ventnor avenues at 8:10 p.m. An investigation revealed a man and a woman crossing the intersection were struck by a motorist traveling westbound.

Members of the Margate City Fire Department responded with two ambulances and two medic units to treat the couple. They were transported to the Atlantic City Medical Center City Division where they were treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Officers ruled out the use of alcohol or drugs as a contributing factor.

According to Public Information Officer Joseph Scullion, there was a headlight out on the vehicle. Scullion also said there was a streetlight out on the bayside of Ventnor Avenue, but neither were considered contributing factors in the accident.

The driver was charged with failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and for maintenance of lamps.

The accident is being investigated by Officer Amy Maclean.
