2nd Annual horseshoe tourney benefits Holy Spirit High School

MARGATE  Players across South Jersey are warming up for the second annual Drink n' Shoes horseshoe tournament Saturday, July 27 at the Margate Log Cabin on Jerome Avenue. Rain date is Sunday, July 28.

The horseshoe tournament begins at 10 a.m. and is $40 per player and $75 for teams of two, including T-shirt and beef and beer beginning at noon. Advance registration required for horseshoe tournament at vizfund.org. Tickets to the beef and beer only are $25 including food, raffle and entertainment by DJ Jerry McGee.

Last year, the Vizthum Scholarship Fund event brought nearly 200 people to help raise $7,000 for students attending Holy Spirit High School. The proceeds from last year's event were used to award scholarships to six incoming freshmen attending Holy Spirit this upcoming school year.

Last year we had an incredible day on the bay and an awesome turnout from the Holy Spirit community, many of whom graduated with me and Ed in 2003 and came in from across the country including Chicago and Los Angeles, said foundation President Shaun Smith of Ventnor. Everyone is excited about this year's event, especially the horseshoe players. We're ready for some friendly competition and a good party for a worthy cause."

Walter Ed Vizthum was an Absecon native and 2003 Holy Spirit High School graduate. His large heart gave out just after his 32nd birthday on Aug. 28, 2017. Leaving behind newborn twin girls and a deep hole in the hearts of his many friends and family members, the Vizthum Scholarship Fund was created to honor his legacy.
