Farmers Market provides luscious offerings for Thanksgiving dinner

Students of the William H. Ross School in Margate sold items they grew and harvested from their school garden at the Margate Community Farmers Market Thanksgiving edition.

MARGATE - Luscious food offerings were available Sunday, Nov. 24 at the Margate Community Farmers Market Thanksgiving edition.

The market was held indoors at Steve & Cookies By The Bay. Hundreds of shoppers attended the market to buy the freshest and some unusual ingredients to serve at Thanksgiving dinner. Others purchased homemade food items for holiday gift giving.

The students at the William H. Ross School's Garden Club were there to sell their handcrafted items to raise money for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey Southern Branch, which distributes food to partner agencies for distribution throughout the South Jersey area.

Children made note cards to sell in packs of four. There were no price tags. Instead, students offered their creations for a monetary donation to the FoodBank. Each card was unique - depicting either kale or peppers, which is what the students grew in their school garden throughout the spring and summer. Students also grew, harvested, dehydrated and jarred the herbs grown in the school garden.

Other food offerings included sheep's milk cheeses, exotic mushrooms, fall root vegetables and leafy greens, locally harvested scallops, handmade pastas and breads, pickles and jams, and desserts, including chocolates and fudge from Jagielky's.
