EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - While the airline industry has been hard hit by the global pandemic, there is some good news for the ongoing regional efforts to develop the Aviation Innovation Hub anchored by the Atlantic City International Airport, the FAA Technical Center and the National Aviation Research and Technology Park in Egg Harbor Township.

Global Crossings Airlines recently signed an airport use agreement with South Jersey Transportation Authority, the owner and operator of Atlantic City International Airport, and is also exploring a potential land lease agreement for development of a new hangar and maintenance facility at the site.

Atlantic County Economic Alliance Executive Director Lauren H. Moore, Jr. noted that the hangar and maintenance facility could create approximately 75 new jobs, including pilots, flight attendants and technicians.

What's even more exciting are their plans to recruit and hire local talent, Moore said in a release. This is exactly why we are pushing to develop a trained workforce to better meet the needs of the businesses that have expressed a genuine interest in locating here.

According to its website, globalairlinesgroup.com, the Global Ground Team will handle all of Global's ground handling requirements at its main base at Miami International Airport and its secondary bases in Toronto, Canada and Atlantic City, and will coordinate ground handling and security requirements for all of Global's charters at airports throughout the U.S., Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson welcomed Global Crossings to Atlantic County.

I am very pleased that Global Crossings recognized the value of locating at the Atlantic City International Airport and being within our Aviation Innovation Hub. I can assure them that county government will do all it can to help them grow and succeed here.

Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) will serve as the northern charter base of operations for Global Crossings, which intends to operate scheduled charters into ACY from Toronto, Montreal and a number of U.S. cities beginning next summer. Atlantic City offers an ideal location with its proximity to several major Northeast metropolitan areas.

The past few months have been a roller coaster for many of our businesses. It's rewarding to have some positive news to share, added Moore. We continue to proceed with our plans to build a better Atlantic County by creating sustainable jobs and a workforce to support them.
