MARGATE The Board of Commissioners Thursday, Feb. 4 introduced two bond ordinances to appropriate funding for various capital improvement projects, including utility work.
Ordinance 01-2021 appropriates $4.25 million in bonds and notes to purchase vehicles and equipment, technology, building improvements, playground upgrades and roadway improvements.
The ordinance appropriates $270,000 for the purchase of a new ambulance and command vehicle for the Fire Department; $401,800 for a dump truck, plow and spreader for Public Works, and the demolition of a building at Monmouth and Benson avenues; $300,000 for playground upgrades at the Decatur Avenue park; $720,300 for improvements to Historic City Hall at 1 S. Washington Ave., including security, HVAC, records storage, and technology upgrades; $43,000 to purchase copiers for the Bloom Pavilion and Police Department; and $2,414,900 for various roadway and drainage improvements on Gladstone, Freemont, Nassau, Jefferson and Amherst avenues, among others, securing a citywide dredging permit, repaving the parking lot at the Police Station, curbs and gutters, re-striping on Atlantic Avenue, and Phase 1 of the LED streetlight replacement project.
Ordinance 01-2021 appropriates $1.3 million for various improvements to the city's water and sewer system, including $198,800 to redevelop Well No. 5, and $1,101,200 for utility improvements needed for numerous roadway improvement projects.

In other business, the board authorized the bidding process for an addition to Fire Station No. 2.
It also approved the purchase and installation of a new Lucy the Elephant themed playground at the Sigmund Rimm Recreation Complex on Jerome Avenue. The city purchased the playground through the Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing System. The $349,123 contract was awarded to Miracle Recreation of Monett, Missouri, with funding appropriated in Ordinance 02-2020.
Additionally, the board approved an extension of a shared services agreement with Longport for court services through April 30.
