After four years rebuilding, a coronavirus shutdown and a nearly $5 million investment, a once abandoned theater will hold its grand opening and ribbon cutting 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22.

According to principal Brett DeNafo, the Ventnor Square Theater on Ventnor Avenue in the North Beach section is finally ready to bring Hollywood to Ventnor.

It has been a long time coming however we believe whole heartedly that the movie theatre experience you'll have here at Ventnor Square Theatre is one of a kind. We can't wait to open up and showcase it all to you this Saturday, the theater posted on its Facebook page.

The company's tagline on its catchy radio jingle is A Better Way to See a Movie.

DeNafo said he would soon be announcing the movies that will be shown on the theater's three screens likely a first run movie, which will be released on Friday, and two second run movies.

Nucky's speakeasy-styled burger bar and restaurant on the second level will open Thursday evening with a private reception for supporters.

The developers of the Town Square Entertainment chain of theaters worked through extra work to ensure the structural integrity of the building and licensing issues since announcing the redevelopment project in early 2018.

Everyone in the city has been great with us, he said. We're excited that we are finally ready to open.

Ventnor Square Theater will be Towns Square Entertainment's third new-concept theater, with wider reclining seats, dining options and a reserved seating ticket system.

The group also owns and operates the Harbor Square Theater in Stone Harbor and the Tilton Square Theater in Northfield. Town Square is also working on opening a fourth theater in the Rio Grande area, which will include a restaurant, bowling alley and entertainment center.

DeNafo, trading under Ventnor, LLC, was awarded the second of three liquor consumption licenses available in Ventnor in November 2018. The company paid $91,100 for the liquor license, which was $14,000 higher than the minimum bid amount.
