Volunteers are being sought to clean up the beaches ahead of the 2022 bathing season. Beach Sweeps will be held in coastal communities 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 9 at more than 70 locations in New Jersey. All ages are invited to participate, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Be sure to wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes and dress according to the weather conditions. Bring your own gloves and a reusable water bottle. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring their own bucket for trashcollection, as this helps to reduce the number of plastic bags used. All other materials to clean the beaches will be provided.

Volunteers will also be provided with data cards to track the debis they collect. The data collected provides a legacy of information that can be used to identify sources of pollution, monitor trends, and discover and promote solutions.

In the Atlantic County area, Atlantic City, Brigantine, Ventnor, Margate and Longport will be conducting the 37th annual Spring Beach Sweep as follows:

  • Brigantine Brigantine Beach Patrol, 1700 S. 17th St.

  • Longport Longport Beach Patrol 33rd and Atlantic avenues

  • Margate Beach at Granville Avenue

  • Ventnor Newport Avenue Beach, 6500 Atlantic Ave.

Volunteers can register online at heep://cleanoceanaction.org/beach-sweeps/beach-sweep-registration-form. Clean-up supplies will be provided along with a card to record what you find on the beach
