Lucy has been surrounded by scaffolding in anticipation of her restoration.

MARGATE - Lucy the Elephant, the city's iconic pachyderm, is ready for her big reveal just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

Tours of the inside of the National Historic Landmark resumed Friday, May 27, following eight months of renovations. The six-story high elephant statue closed in September 2021 after architects determined it would be most cost effective to replace her metal skin siding rather than to try and restore it.

Although there's more work to be done at the historic attraction, visitors will be able to see the inside of the roadside attraction, although visitors will not be able to step onto her howdah to see panoramic views of Absecon Island and the Atlantic Ocean.

Guided tours will begin every 45 minutes starting at 10:15 a.m. each day. The last tour of the day is at 4:15 p.m.
