Provided/Rabbi Feshbach and Cantor Harrison sound the traditional call of the shofar for Rosh Hashanah on the Huntington Avenue Beach.
MARGATE - Families gathered at the Huntington Avenue beach Sept. 16 for a Rosh Hashanah family service followed by Tashlich, the casting away of sins.
Parents place their hands on the heads of their children during the traditional blessing of the children.
The service continued at the water's edge as families threw pieces of bread into the waves. Tashlich is a custom of casting away one's sins during the High Holidays. Worshippers symbolically throw bread into a body of water, thus starting the New Year with a clean slate.
After throwing their bread, two friends sound toy shofars at the water's edge.
