MARGATE – Children entering the William H. Ross School to start their education as kindergarteners next week got to meet their teachers Thursday afternoon and enjoy something sweet to eat.
The Margate Education Foundation hosted the Kindergarten Ice Cream Social in the Ross School playground for 39 eager learners. They got to test out the playground equipment, meet their teachers and enjoy story time, but the highlight of the event was the opportunity to enjoy some ice creme treats. Students eagerly lined up to select their favorite treat at the ice cream truck parked outside the schoolyard on Granville Avenue.
Principal Bonnie Marino said the school will have three sections of kindergarten classes to accommodate 39 students taught by teachers Amy Hughes, Jaime Collins and Christa Toner.
“It’s so nice to see their bright and happy faces and welcome their families to our school community,” Marino said.
MEF Co-president Jenni Nagel encouraged parents to get involved in school happenings, especially those funded by the foundation, which works to provide positive support for the school system and its students.
The MEF supports numerous student activities held throughout the school year, including Bubbles for Autism, Field Day, Running Club, Native Species Garden, Eighth Grade Plunge and Movie Night at the PAC.
Nagel invited parents to learn more at the MEF 2024-2025 school year kick-off meeting being held 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at Sofia’s restaurant. Light fare will be provided. Parents will learn more about annual events, such as the Boo Fest, Winter Social and Super Sweepstakes, volunteer and fundraising opportunities and ways to get involved in their children’s education.
