LONGPORT – Longtime Public Works employee Juergen Simmons is retiring after 34 years on the job.

On Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Longport Board of Commissioners honored him by naming the day as Juergen Simmons Day in Longport.

Simmons first started working in the borough on April 9, 1990 working his way through the ranks to become assistant supervisor of the Department of Public Works.

During his tenure, he worked through storms and nor’easters, including Hurricane Sandy, to make sure the roads were passable and safe. He also worked tirelessly to maintain the beaches in pristine condition for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The proclamation thanked Summons for his service and expressed "deep and sincere appreciation" on behalf of borough residents.

Simmons said it was "an honor and a priviledge" to work in Longport.
