Anna Lapwood

ATLANTIC CITY - Newly appointed Member of the British Empire Anna Lapwood will be playing a special concert Friday, April 5 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

Lapwood has taken the classical music world by storm over the last few years and has utilized social media platforms to bring the pipe organ back to the foreground of music. Playing themes from How to Train Your Dragon, Pirates of the Caribbean and The DaVinci Code has impressed audiences that the pipe organ can not only play the classical works long associated with it, but also modern compositions, thrilling audiences of all ages.

For many years the pipe organ industry has been predominantly headed by male organists, but Lapwood is on a mission to change that with her hashtag #playlikeagirl. She was the first female in Magdalen College Oxford's 560-year history to be awarded the Organ Scholarship. As one of the organists at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Lapwood has now been regularly asked to incorporate the historic pipe organ there into many of the visiting main line concerts with headliners such as Bonobo.

Lapwood's program will highlight the restoration of the organ to more than 64% function after decades of decay. When recitals began on the instrument in 2014, only 10% of the organ was playable. Due to the massive undertaking by Historic Organ Restoration Committee, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2024, the World's Largest Pipe Organ is being heard in its intended glory for the first time in its 95-year history.

Tickets are available by visiting www.boardwalkorgans.org or www.boardwalkhall.com.
