  • Atlantic County

Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson today announced the addition of a new member of county administration following the unanimous approval of Stephen O'Connor by the Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 16. O'Connor will serve as special projects management coordinator.

Steve O'Connor's vast government and administrative experience will be highly beneficial as we move forward to explore cost-effective health benefit plan options, a regional jail, the management of opioid settlement funds and capital improvement projects, Levinson said in a release.

Over the past 24 years, O'Connor has served in administrative positions for Cape May County, Middle Township, Cape May Point and the City of Wildwood. Additionally, he spent several years as the interim executive director of the South Jersey Economic Development District, which includes representatives of Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties.

O'Connor holds a master of public policy degree from Rutgers University and a bachelor of arts degree from Stockton University, formely the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Levinson noted that like many organizations, county government has had difficulties in filling vacancies and attracting new hires.

We were fortunate that Steve became available at a time when we were looking for additional assistance. He is familiar with many of our colleagues and has an understanding of what is involved in the operation of county government, Levinson said. He has hit the ground running and will be a tremendous asset.

O'Connor is serving in the Department of Administration at an annual salary of $85,000.
