MARGATE – The students at the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School will be hosting an Empty Bowls fundraiser called “SOUPer Bowl for Hunger,” noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 in the Tighe School Cafeteria.
The districtwide service project is designed to educate students about the power of kindness and empathy. The students will provide clay bowls they made filled with homemade soup.
The project will support Reed’s Farm, Community FoodBank of New Jersey Southern Branch and World Central Kitchen, who work to reduce hunger and food insecurity.
To make the event a success, parents, residents, local chefs and businesses are asked to provide a pot of homemade soup, stew or chili. The donor must provide their own heat source to keep the food at the appropriate temperature, such as a crockpot, chafing dish or Sterno setup.
Other items needed include ice, bottles of water, seltzer and juice, napkins, table covers, bread and desserts.
Tickets for the event are $10 at the door and include a handcrafted ceramic bowl made by students and unlimited soup tastings.
