Longport promotes longtime lifeguard to rank of lieutenant

LONGPORT – Mayor Nicholas Russo Wednesday, July 17, administered the oath of office for Daniel Gordon, promoting a lead lifeguard on the Longport Beach Patrol to the rank of lieutenant. Russo performed the brief ceremony in the absence of Commissioner of Public Safety Dan Lawler, who attended the meeting via teleconference.

Gordon’s family and members of the Beach Patrol attended the Board of Commissioners meeting in support of their fellow first responder.

Gordon has been a member of the Beach Patrol for 20 summers and is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician. Russo said he attended EMT training with Gordon.

“Of course, I was always cheating off his paper,” Russo joked.

Beach Patrol Chief Tom Kresz said the Beach Patrol is fortunate to have another certified EMT in the officer corps.

“He is a reservist in the U.S. Coast Guard, so we are looking forward to him bringing all the knowledge he has learned in the Coast Guard to the Beach Patrol to help us smooth out some of our operations,” Kresz said.
