GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - The Office of Continuing Studies and Adult Education at Stockton University is accepting registrants for a new certificate program on disordered eating.

The series titled Understanding the Spectrum of Eating Disordered Behaviors is part of Stockton's Social Work Continuing Education Program. taught by Suzanne Rubinetti, LCSW, it features five workshops to address the many aspects of clinical work with eating disorders. Each workshop is taught live on Zoom and is 2.5 hours long beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Fridays, April 26, May 3, 17, 31 and June 14.

The series begins with a two-part workshop titled Eating Disorders & OCD, which is required for completing the remaining three sections of the program. Clinicians who don't complete the first two meetings will not be permitted to complete the series. The other three workshops will focus on orthorexia, intuitive eating and intergenerational food trauma.

Stockton has worked closely with Rubinetti over the past year to develop this new certificate program, Assistant Director Diana Strelczyk said.

Clinicians have told us they are experiencing a rise of disordered eating symptoms stemming from COVID-related stressors, personal traumas and fear about the future, she said. We look forward to assisting clinicians find new ways to understand and treat the spectrum of disordered eating.

Strelczyk added that this new certificate program comes off the success of the university's first certificate program Understanding the Grieving Client: Familial and Traumatic Loss Certificate. That five-session course will be offered again on Wednesdays, May 15 to Aug. 21.

The eating disorder series will provide 12.5 clinical continuing education units for social workers and mental health providers in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia and Maryland. It's specifically designed for social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists and licensed professional counselors.

The eating disorders certificate program costs $249 per person. Register at stockton.edu/continuing-studies/sowk.html.
