Last season, after making some notable offseason moves, the Sixers were expected to have a memorable campaign. In the end, though, it was a miserable season. However, fast forward to today, and the likes of Paul George are now preparing for the playoffs, despite the team facing a fair bit of scrutiny at times. Thankfully, there’s relief all around for everyone associated with the Sixers.

In the past, though, the Philadelphia 76ers have arguably had far more talent at their disposal. Sure, they spent big last season, and it could finally come to fruition this time around, but a tough test in the playoffs awaits against a dangerous Celtics side. For fans who select their fantasy teams and indulge in NBA betting, backing the 76ers to reach the NBA Finals is a big ask. However, if today’s cohort of players can look to some former heroes for inspiration, then it might just happen.

After all, fans of the Sixers have witnessed some world-class operators over the years. So, while the likes of Tyrese Maxey will be hoping to lead his team to glory in the playoffs, fans in the stands will be hoping to see the type of game-winning displays some legends of the team used to pull off on a regular basis. With that in mind, below we salute some of the best Sixers players ever.

Wilt Chamberlain

As 76ers royalty, Wilt Chamberlain will always be remembered by fans who were lucky enough to watch him in action. A true legend of the sport, Chamberlain was a dominant force who thrived under the pressure of the playoffs. His role in the 1967 NBA title win was iconic, while his performances from the center position were unrivaled. For many fans of the team, Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest to ever do it.

Julius Erving

From his undeniable influence in the famous 1983 championship win to his stellar displays on a regular basis, Julius Erving was a joy to watch. Not only did Erving score points and showcase flair, but his leadership skills were second to none. A player who set the standard and brought the very best out of his teammates, the type of mentality Julius Erving had will be needed by today’s cohort of 76ers in their quest for glory this season. Make no mistake about it, Julius Erving really was one of a kind.

Moses Malone

In terms of achievements, Moses Malone won it all. While he’s occasionally ignored by some when assessing the biggest and best players in Sixers history, others know just how much of a key cog he was. Moses Malone was MVP on three occasions, he was an invaluable presence during the team’s 1983 title triumph, and he was an infectious personality in camp.

Allen Iverson

Yet another big name associated with the 76ers, Allen Iverson is one of the finest scorers the NBA has ever witnessed. The 2001 MVP always rose to the biggest of occasions, while he is also credited with changing the culture in the sport. From his distinctive style to his admirable attitude, Iverson was an invaluable influence during his time with the team. As a result of his stunning displays and off-court impact, Allen Iverson is regarded by some as the greatest Sixers player of all time.

Charles Barkley

Finally, we have to remember Charles Barkley here. Despite his short stature, Barkley thrived. As one of the most skilled forwards the sport of basketball has seen, he was always entertaining audiences. Likewise, Barkley’s scoring abilities were immaculate, while he was a fantastic rebounder despite his size.
