LONGPORT Commissioner of Public Safety Dan Lawler Wednesday, Sept. 21 administered the oath of office for two members of the Longport Police Department during the Board of Commissioners workshop meeting.

The department promoted Officer Quinton Wright to the rank of sergeant and hired Jonathan A. Saggese as a Class II Special Officer.

Wright, who started as a special officer in 2015 was hired as a full-time patrol officer in the fall of 2016. He has been commended by citizens and the department.

He is an impressive young man and has blossomed and turned into a good family man too, Police Chief Frank Culmone said.

Wright is currently serving as the department's technical officer and has served a field training officer.

Mayor Nicholas Russo said the promotion to sergeant is important one for a small police department.

The rank of sergeant is very important and sets the tone for the rank and file, Russo said. The police chief sets policy and does all of the administration, but he is not out there with the (officers) on a daily basis, it's the sergeants.

Jonathan A. Saggese takes the oath of office as a Class II Special Officer, while his fiancee Ahna Lafferty holds the Bible.

Saggese, who previously worked for a summer in the Ocean City Police Department, will be a great addition to the Longport department and work full-time, Culmone said.

We welcome him to our family and look forward to him having a bright and prosperous career with us, Culmone said.
