GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - More than 50 exhibitors and vendors will gather at Stockton University’s Campus Center May 9 for the annual Successful Aging Festival, presented by the Stockton Center on Successful Aging.
The festival’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” will focus on the profound impact meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Stockton students will attend sessions throughout the day to facilitate meaningful connections across generations.
The festival’s signature intergenerational project this year is a food and toiletry drive to benefit the Stockton Food Assistance Program, which offers free products to Stockton students in need. All attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unopened, unexpired shelf stable food item (cereal, boxed milk, tuna, canned beans, canned veggies) or toiletry item (deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, etc.) for this student-driven collection.
Admission for the event being held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is free and parking is available in front of the Campus Center, 101 Vera King Farris Drive. Stockton is on NJ Transit bus route 508, which runs from Atlantic City to the Hamilton Mall.
Breakout sessions include a showing of the film, “Saving Claire: The Story of Denying Gravity,” with a discussion about fall prevention. Local organization, the Seeing Eye, which breeds and raises puppies to become seeing eye dogs, will also be showcased. The festival will host sessions on Understanding Social Security Income and Long-Term Care Funding Alternatives, Pine Needle Basket Making, Chair Yoga, Blue Zones Sessions, Pinelands Discovery, a Nature Photography Walk and much more.
