Traffic Advisory: Longport Police issue traffic advisories ahead of roadwork

  • Travel

The Longport Police Department has issued a traffic advisory ahead of a long-awaited public road improvement project the borough hopes to have completed before summer.

The borough will soon be creating a raised bike lane along the Atlantic Avenue seawall in the Longport Point section of the borough.

The project is intended to make it safer for walkers, runners and bicyclists traveling to and from the new Longport Point observation and parking area recently completed at the end of Absecon Island.

Construction will soon begin on Atlantic Avenue between 22nd and 17th avenues. To accommodate the workers and the safety of the public, motorists will experience lane shifts or alternating traffic patterns that will maintain traffic flow in both directions.

To accommodate the free flow of traffic according to NJ DOT regulations, parking on the beach side of Atlantic Avenue will be temporarily eliminated during the project. The two lanes of travel will be shifted to the beach side of the roadway while a new concrete bike lane is installed along the rock wall.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and plan accordingly. Everyone is required to follow the instructions of police officers or workers onsite.
